THE STORY EVERYONE NEEDS TO HEAR – ‘A STAR IS BORN’ REVIEW

Hey guys. Wow. That is the first word that comes to mind when I think of ‘A Star is Born’. For once, I don’t know where to begin. I am truly speechless. I will try my best to put what I feel into words, so here we go. This story touched me in so many ways and in a way that I didn’t even know was possible. So much so, that although I only came out of the theatre an hour ago I truly feel the need to write this right now, at 1AM! I can’t keep it in. I can’t just forget about the movie. It may sound like I am being dramatic but watch the movie and you will understand why I feel this way!

.

Right before getting into the post I just want to add that I tried my best to make this post the most spoiler-free as possible. Please enjoy!

A STAR IS BORN

.
As soon as I heard Bradley Cooper was producing a movie that is a remake of the previous ‘A Star is Born’ movies, with singer/actor Lady Gaga I knew I would have to watch it. I wasn’t sure what to expect from her performance because of the small amounts of acting I saw in American Horror Story. But, I was excited to finally see her as a lead and of course to see what Bradley Cooper had to bring to the table as a co-lead/director and screenwriter! I was expecting a 7/10 but wow, how I was wrong…
.
First and foremost let me tell you a bit about the story itself. Jackson Maine (who is played by Bradley Cooper), is a well-known musician who discovers and falls in love with Ally (Lady Gaga), an artist trying to make it but about to give up her dream. Jackson helps her and puts her in the spotlight. Jackson and Ally start an adventure together but things get rough when Ally’s career reaches its height and Jackson struggles with his own demons.
.

Bradley Cooper acted extremely well. I have previously loved his roles in ‘American Sniper’ and in ‘Silver Linings Playbook’. But, in this movie, he truly blew me away. Especially when I found out that he also directed the whole thing!!

This 2h14 minute drama/romance made me laugh and cry. It is such a beautiful story and is told very well. I haven’t seen a movie this raw in ages, truly. It’s heartfelt, well-paced and so authentic! Gaga will finally get the recognition she deserves as an actress and Cooper as a filmmaker. ‘A Star is Born’ for me, is by far in the best release of the year and probably even of the decade. I can’t emphasize this enough, but the actors’ chemistry on film was so real and believable! I truly can’t wait to see more from both of them and for them to get nominated for many awards, they completely deserve it! I really hope this movie gets an Oscar!
.
The whole soundtrack was also on fire and let me tell you that I’ve had the song ‘Shallow’ stuck in my head for weeks now! I knew it was going to be good, but, when I first heard it (on the plane to Los Angeles) I was in awe of Bradley Cooper and his incredible voice. On an interview with Ellen, he explained that he had never really sung before and he hadn’t realized how hard it was! For someone that hasn’t really sung before, I was truly, truly impressed. Let’s not even get started with Lady Gaga, she’s phenomenal. I’ve been a fan of hers for years and especially after seeing her incredible performance live at Coachella. That performance actually motivated me to continue taking singing lessons. I just fell in love with how raw she was. I know I already said that but it is true! The songs in the soundtrack fit her so well and I loved that kind of country-style music for her. Her performance in the movie was absolutely incredible, I truly believed every second of it.
.

(P. S. You also have to go see Lady Gaga’s documentary ‘Gaga: Five Foot Two’ it is so good!)

This movie is spread over quite a bit of time and each song was perfectly put to describe their emotions and for us to get to know the characters better. It felt like we were right there with them the whole way through. Without spoiling anything let me tell you it made the whole room cry at the cinema. When the screen turned black you couldn’t hear a single sound, everyone was just left in their seats in awe; not standing up. Without exaggerating I had to take a second to regroup my emotions before leaving, as, I literally couldn’t stop my tears from rolling down my face (which is so, so, so, so rare for me). I’ve rarely (if ever) been that touched by a fiction.
.

Along with being a romantically beautiful movie. This movie discusses some more serious issues. I don’t want to spoil too much, so, maybe if you haven’t seen the movie don’t read this short paragraph and skip to the next one. The movie addresses drug addiction and mental health. I know that normally my blog posts are happy and exciting, but, I just need to mention something to make this review truly authentic. If you have read my posts for a while you would know that I have mentioned that I previously struggled with depression and an eating disorder. I just want to let any reader dealing/who have dealt with the same issues know that this movie does touch on both of these subjects. Eating disorders are linked to some of the ideas present, but it is not an obvious theme. The film touches on the fact that women are judged and criticized for their imperfections. It also mentions severe issues of mental health. So for any viewer that has struggled with these issues please bear in mind that the film will mention it. This is why the film truly touched me. I believe that these issues are in a way shy upon in the Hollywood film industry, so, I love so much that the movie wasn’t afraid to talk about it.

This is a beautiful love story about not giving up on your dreams and about realization and I wouldn’t change a single thing about it.
.
I can’t rate this movie as I loved it so much, I would give it a 1000 if I could! But seriously, as you guessed, it’s a straight 10/10 for me. I would recommend anyone to watch it!
.
I also got the crazy opportunity to bump into Gaga herself at a Céline fashion show, I was at a couple weeks ago. (Click HERE if you’d be interested in reading my post about that)! I was also given the (insane and incredible) opportunity to watch the movie at a premiere but looking back I realized that it was so nice to go to the cinema and watch the movie in my mom’s company. I think that for such an emotional movie it is nice to watch it in a more comforting environment.

.

Anyways, let me know down below if you watched the movie and what you truly thought!
.
Lot’s of LOVE, as always,

.
