Hey guys! How are you all doing? Today I wanted to post something that I’ve never done before. Today’s post will be on my favourite movies and TV Shows of the year! I wasn’t originally planning on doing my favourites of 2018, but, I started to realize all the great entertainment in the film industry that came out last year. I knew I would have to do this post and I thought, well, it’s better late than never! Plus, I’m pretty sure you haven’t all seen the best movie and tv shows of 2018. I also thought with the Oscar nominations having just been released I can make a list of who I would nominate! No, but really, I endlessly love all the movies and TV Shows on this list. But now, let’s get to know a bit more about each of them, shall we?
.
.
.
Starting off with movies in the Drama category. I found so many movies that will forever be classics for me, and I found them all this year. From ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, to ‘A Star is Born’ to even ‘Leave No Trace’! Dramas have always been my favourite film category but it is more now than ever! I truly hope 2019 will have some good Drama releases too!
.
This new drama based on the true heartbreaking story of Nic and David Sheff, starring Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet broke many hearts, including mine. It was beautifully told and I’m truly glad I saw it with my dad (who enjoyed it as much as I did, maybe even a little more than me)! You can check out my full review with my rating on the movie HERE. If you haven’t seen the film it’s a heartbreaking story of a boy that has a terrible drug addiction. The story shows how the dad and son get through it together.
.
My favourite picture of the year. ‘A Star is Born’ is to me, the biggest masterpiece. The acting, the soundtrack, everything was SO incredibly wow. They knew how to talk about very important issues in a very touching way. As someone who has dealt with some of the issues mentioned, it was heartbreaking and fascinating to see this movie on the big screen. Read my full review about that HERE. ‘A Star is Born’ is about a woman who gains fame in the industry because of a famous singer that she meets and falls in love with. The story shows the dark sides of the music industry and how badly it can affect someone.
.
This movie is not as sparkly as the two previous movies but still as real. I really enjoyed ‘Leave No Trace’ and I’ve never truly seen anything like it. I saw it on a flight back from Atlanta (to London), this is a great find from 2018! ‘Leave no Trace’ is a movie about a father and daughter in search of a place to call home after there home was taken away from them.
.
Wow. What a life, what a story. I can officially say Queen is my favourite band haha. This movie truly blew my mind! It’s a must watch for EVERYONE! You can check out my full review about that with my score on it HERE! ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is the story of the band ‘Queen’ and is mostly about the main member of the band: Freddie Mercury.
.
Crazy Rich Asians! Not as dramatic as the other movies but wow! I was mind blown with everything, from the insane costume design to finally showing a bit more diversity! Definitely, a must watch and would recommend it to pretty much anyone so if you haven’t watched it yet, go watch it. ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ is a film about an Asian girl that like in America with her Asian boyfriend. When her boyfriend’s best friend is due to get married he asks his girlfriend to come to the wedding with him. The girlfriend soon finds out that his family is extremely Rich and this makes their relationship very complicated.
.
Another movie that I was mind blown when watching! ‘Bad Times at the El Royale’ actually inspired me to write my first ever script (‘Nightmare in the Blue House’, that will hopefully be for a short movie)! The cast is insane and so is the soundtrack and it’s incredibly dark and plot-twisting which I love. If you like dark mysteries and thrillers, this is the one for you. The movie is about the El Royale which is a hotel where seven strangers meet and a lot goes down.
.
One that I very recently saw. ‘Roma’ was everything I wished it to be and more. It was simple yet not boring at all and very emotional (not spoiling anything but especially throughout the end of the film). I’m very glad to see Netflix step up their game! The movie is about a middle-classed housekeeper in Mexico in the 1970s and her life.
.
I also really like the movie ‘Searching’ about a dad trying to find his disappeared daughter and ‘The Hate U Give’ which is about a girl switching from the neighborhood where she lives which is a poor mostly black neighborhood and a preppy white school that she attends.
.
Now into science-fiction! I’ve seen a couple of movies this year that I’ve been waiting for, for years and years and years, literally. I wouldn’t say it was as good as other years in the Science fiction département, but we still had some really good content!
.
Starting off with Infinity War which ties the whole Marvel Universe together, literally, in one movie. I was so incredibly fortunate enough to be able to attend the event with the best “plus one” ever, my brother! The movie was truly once again, everything I wanted it to be and more. I can understand why it would be a bit frustrating not understanding every single thing but as a Marvel fan, I honestly enjoyed it a lot! **Slight Spoilers** Not going to lie though, the end had me really frustrated haha. The CGI was also so incredibly good! You can also check out my full review about it HERE!
.
2018 was THE year for Marvel. Starting the year off with this insane movie! ‘Black Panther’ will forever be one of my favourite movies from the company. The soundtrack was so good and once again it’s so good to finally see more and more variety in movies, but still not enough. Either Way, I would recommend ‘Black Panther’ a hundred percent. Truly a good movie from start to finish! Ps; the costume design is also insane!
.
I can still remember 4-year-old me angry at the TV for leaving me with a massive cliffhanger at the end of the Incredibles haha. I think that I’ve never been as excited to see a movie in theatres ever in my life. After long 14 years years of wait (throughout which I grew up) I can say that ‘The Incredibles 2’ was worth the wait. It was so good! From all the funny Jack-Jack scenes, to Helen being a more badass than ever mom and even to Violet’s crazy love problems. ‘The Incredibles 2’ had me full of surprises and laughter! I truly enjoyed it.
.
‘Ready Player One’! I will never not be amazed by Steven Spielberg. The movie as a whole was so original and I love how it went from the real world to the oasis (virtual video game) back to reality. Once again, the CGI was more on point than ever. 2018 really was the year for CGI! I also loved Olivia Cooke and she was great as Samantha and I also loved Tye Sheridan (that I had never heard of before this project). I would really recommend this movie, especially if you like modern technology and action and fantasy because that is what the movie is mostly about.
.
Third time’s a charm. For the third insane premiere I attended I truly wasn’t disappointed. Aquaman was the first movie I saw that was mainly under water. Which I was quite nervous about because that means it could’ve went either really good or really bad. Luckily for me (in my opinion), it was good! The CGI wasn’t that great in the beginning of the movie but it was really good during the “dream” scenes, which wasn’t too bad since the CGI was insane everywhere else! I was left in awe, truly. I would definitely recommend this movie if you like superheroes and action movies!
.
The next category is horror! Horror movies truly are my favourite, I’m just all about the spooky vibe and just horror stories in general.
.
I can’t talk about 2018 horror movies without including ‘Hereditary’. It really was by far my favourite one. It’s chilling, to say the least! It’s also so different from all the other horror movies I’ve seen. I recommend it if you like very dark/horror movies!
.
Next up is ‘A Quiet Place’ like ‘Hereditary’, ‘A Quiet Place’ knows how to stand out from the rest of the horror movies which is why it has its place on this list. I still like all horror movies, but I am a bit tired of seeing the same horror scenario over and over. The whole movie was so tense, especially throughout the end. I saw it in theatres with my best friend and we both enjoyed it a lot! Full review about that HERE.
.
I also really liked ‘BirdBox’, ‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’ and ‘Annihilation’.
.
Our last movie category, ROMANCE!
.
Not as “big” as the other movies but I still had to add it to this list as to me it clearly deserves its place. The cast is great and I love Lara-Jean’s character and the actress who plays it! Noah Centineo is also great in it and the overall story is fun and a bit more laid back then the other ones (whilst still leaving you full of feels). I love the cinematography and everything was just so aesthetic and pretty! You can read my full review about it with my rating on it HERE. This movie is about a young couple slowly falling in love with some twists along the way.
.
And lastly the last movie, ‘Adrift’. This drama/romance based off of real events is fascinating and inspirational at the same time. It’s an important story and I’m glad it got to be told on the big screen. I would definitely recommend it if you like this genre. If you want to know more about the true story behind the screen you can read my post on it HERE. This move is less of a cute romantic movie, but more like a very intense dramatic love story!
.
In this category, I also really like ‘Love, Simon’ but just, just a tiny bit not enough to add it.
.
Here are some of the movies that I wanted to watch but still haven’t gotten the chance to: ‘The Favourite’, ‘Mary Poppins Returns’, ‘First Reformed’, ‘First Man’, ‘BlackKklansman’, ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’, ‘Eight Grade’ and ‘SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE’ that I’m so mad at myself for not having seen already! As well as ‘Green Book’ and ‘Boy Erased’! I’ve heard so many good things about each one of these movies and I can’t wait to see every single one of them.
.
.
.
Now onto TV Shows! 2018 was a good year for Netflix! From ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ to ‘You’. I found quite a lot of new TV Shows that I was obsessed with last year! I also really want to start ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’.
.
.
‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ ended up being all I wanted it to be and more! It was spooky, it was funny, it was dark and a bit twisted and overall just vintage and fun! I also love shows related to witchcraft and that kind of stuff, so this was really entertaining! It was also fun to see a newer version of Sabrina! You can check out my full review about that HERE.
..
The most chilling for last, ‘The Haunting of Hill House’, it wasn’t as terrifying as I thought it would’ve been, I’m going, to be honest. But, it still had quite a few scary parts. The cast is insane and I love how they separated it into when they were younger and when they’re adults. It’s fascinating! All the kid actors literally looked like younger versions of the adult actors, really great casting!! The acting was also really good. I like how you could see each version of the same events, truly a good show! If you want to know my rating on it you can click HERE.
.
‘You’ truly was an unexpected discovery! I hadn’t heard anything about it but when I was scrolling I was like “Is that Dan Humphrey from Gossip Girl? With Shay Mitchell?”. I was really excited and decided to watch it pretty much straight away. I was a bit squeamish at first but then I really enjoyed it. I’ve never seen any show like that and it was pretty intense, to say the least. The cast is unexpected but I love all the choices they made! Everyone fits their characters so well in my opinion!
.
And last but not least, ‘Atypical’. I’ve loved this show from its first episode, and it only gets better. It’s the story of a teenager named Sam who’s autistic and wants to start dating. He has a very sweet family and a lot of stuff happens. It’s full of laughter, cries and heartwarming moments. My favorite Tv Show of the year!
.
.
That wraps up all my favourite entertainment of 2018! I hope you enjoyed and don’t forget to let me know down in the comments if you share a favourite with me!
.
Also, do you prefer Drama or Romance? For me, it would definitely have to be Drama!

For some reason I don’t see riverdale on here🤔
Yay some love for Bad Times At The El Royale. I loved that movie. It also minspired me to write a screenplay.
I loved it, I never heard about your blog but I agree with almost all your comments about the movies and series, my favorite and expected movie in 2019 is Glass and Toy story 4 ( cause I want so much to cry in this movie, I didn’t cry enough from the last movie)
Not a fan of those TV shows (Stranger Things 2 was 2017 and thd show is good but overrated). The movie picks were pretty solid. I enjoyed the ones I’ve seen. Did you try Manifest or A Million Little Things? I noticed your TV shows were just Netflix Originals mostly and there’s a lot of good non-Netflix shows out there.
