My thoughts on the new adaptation of ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch – ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ Netflix Review

Hey guys! How are you doing? It’s been a week since the release of Netflix’s new horror/teen show based off of the ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ Archie comics. I’ve seen all three seasons of ‘Riverdale’ which are also based on these comics and I personally don’t think it’s that great. I still watch it as I’m still curious to know what’s going to happen next, but, when I learned that they used the same directors for ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ I couldn’t help but wonder if it would be better than ‘Riverdale’. This reboot was meant to be much darker than the 90’s version and the cartoon and if you know me you know that I love horror so I was very intrigued!
Btw, this review is spoiler-free!

The story is about Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka) a half witch half mortal. As her 16th birthday is coming up she will have to choose between the light or the darkness. That is the simple version of the plot.

I’ve had a really hard time deciding if I like this show. I absolutely adore the cast and it’s one of the reasons I continued watching. I loved Sabrina’s cousin Ambrose, who is played by the one and only Chance Perdomo. The aunties Hilda and Zelda were also very well casted in my opinion. Everything is also so aesthetic! There’s truly a vintage 60’s feel to it and it put me in the perfect mood for Halloween! The visuals were truly on point apart from the generic that I’m not a huge fan of haha. The show was definitely darker and it was well, chilling… It gave me an American Horror Story meets Riverdale vibe (whilst still being better than Riverdale).

A lot of people seem to have a problem with the fact that Salem (Sabrina’s cat) doesn’t speak in this reboot (like he did in the 90’s version). But, I personally don’t have a problem with it, I believe it fits more within that universe and it would probably be a bit much with it. I also think that this aspect makes the show somewhat more realistic. I think that a reboot of movies and tv shows should always change a little bit to keep things exciting. Don’t you think?

Some parts of the show were a bit boring and slow and I wasn’t dying to know the end. A lot of things were predictable but it was overall still fun to watch. I still continued and I’m glad I finished it until the end! I give this show a 7/10 as I will most definitely watch part 2! This show is mostly spooky, but, with a dose of romance, action and all things wizardry.

Those are my thought on Netflix’s new show ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’. Let me know if you’ve seen the show or heard of it!
Lot’s of LOVE, as always,
