Hey guys! Lately, I have been watching a ton of chilling Netflix original shows to write reviews for all of you! If you haven’t checked it out yet I already reviewed ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ (the link for that is HERE). Another show that I also really wanted to watch was ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ based on the book by Shirley Jackson. As soon as I heard about this show I knew I would have to give it its own post. I’m a huge fan of horror and occasionally watch horror series’, so, I wanted to see what Netflix would bring to the table.

First and foremost let me tell you a bit about the story itself. *NO SPOILERS AHEAD*. Anyways, it is about a family with five children. They move into this house where they grow up and where something terrible eventually happens. We, as an audience, get brought back and forth through their past and their lives now as adults. The acting was also on point! That is as much as I can say without spoiling but I think you get the point.

Before getting into how much I liked the show I feel the need to talk about the actors! The cast is truly amazing and was so extremely well cast in my opinion! I know I say that a lot but in this case, it is so so true. Each character had a younger actor playing their child self and an older actor playing their adult self, I can truly say that each actor was astonishing and they all looked the same! The children and adults (that played the children of the family) all looked like siblings and the adults looked so much like their younger selves. Another thing that I absolutely loved about this show is how layered it is. You can see a scene in one of the early episodes and not think anything of it and then see it from a whole other perspective a few episodes later. Everything is truly connected which is so cool. One second you’ll see a plant and think nothing of it and later in the series, you’ll realize that the plant was very important (not literally haha)!

Although I loved it, it was a bit too slow in some parts for me. I get that it’s a psychological horror, so I don’t expect tons of horror and screamers. But, it was still too slow for me in some parts and I wasn’t, well dying, to know what happens in the next episode. I was still curious enough to finish the whole series though! Some scenes were truly chilling like the scene with the floating very tall man (I don’t believe this is a spoiler but you’ll get it if you’ve seen the show). Also, when you learn the whole story about the bent neck lady. It’s just chilling, truly chilling. So that was good!
.
Even though it’s a horror the show brings up real and though subjects like family, addiction, tragedy and death, mental health… etc.

It’s altogether a really good horror series which is extremely well directed by Mike Flanagan and well acted. It’s very detailed and you get to see the side of each character which is really fun. I would definitely recommend this Netflix original series if you’re a fan of horror too! I give it an 8/10 as I’ve never seen anything like it.

Have you seen ‘The Haunting of Hill House’? If so, did you like it?

Lot’s of LOVE, as always,
