STARTING THE SUMMER RIGHT – MY EXPERIENCE AT THE 2019 MTV MOVIE & TV AWARDS

Hey guys! I hope you’re doing good wherever you are in the world reading this right now! For today’s post, I wanted to share something that I have anticipated to share for a little while now. That is my post about the MTV Movie and TV Awards! A little more than a month ago I got the truly amazing news that I would get the chance to get invited and get to take a plus one with me to the MTV awards. My brother and I both ended up going and to put it short we truly had a blast! The show was taped on the 15th and is broadcasted today on the 17th. I obviously made sure to post it after it went live to not spoil anyone on the wins! But now let’s go into how everything went down, shall we?

First off, the morning started pretty normally, we had a huge breakfast (which is pretty unusual for me if you know me haha). My brother then headed to the hairdresser to get a cut and I got my hair and makeup done in the room, which is always so fun! I always learn new beauty tricks from the makeup artist that I re-apply all the time when I do my makeup by myself. For the hair, I went for a sleek high ponytail and for the makeup I went for something light and simple as my dress was already a lot! A little bit less than two hours later I put on my Alexandre Vauthier fitted black dress with golden puffy ruffle material on one side of the dress. I love the dress so much for me it truly looks like a dress that just came off the couture runway. With that, I wore black and golden high heels from Jimmy Choo with a small clutch from the same brand. My brother opted for more of a ‘Summer Vibe’ with a blue shirt with jeans and white sneakers!

Shortly after getting ready we left the hotel and around 20 Minutes of the car later we got to Airport Avenue where the Award show took place. We showed our tickets, headed in and passed security! Not long after that, we arrived in a big open room filled with buffets, photo walls, bars, and attendees! We all had an MTV tray where we could select and pick up endless choices from the menu and bring them inside! Which I thought was so cool since pretty much everyone gets hungry at these shows haha. We got a couple pictures taken and stayed by the bar for a little bit. We then headed to the venue where the taping was going to take place. Right before going on we had to put our phones in sealed pockets as it was a taping and not live around the world.

We walked the red carpet and could spot dozens of A-listers being interviewed. The setting was so dreamy, I still wish I could be able to show it to you guys! But either way, we quickly got inside and headed to the ‘riser’ seating section which was where our seats were at. There were a couple seats at the top of the venue which were upper seats and then there were more ‘riser’ seats as well on the ground level around the tables (where the nominees were). Every person not sitting at a table got a bottle of water with sweets and salty popcorn (and let me tell you they were THE best I’ve EVER tried haha).

As soon as we sat down, the room started filling up pretty quickly and the people hosting the event had us pumped with great background music! Not too long after that, the cameras started rolling and Zachary Levi started his hosting with a funny speech. Then there was a funny short parody of ’Us’ starring Zachary Levi haha (read my review of the movie HERE). Not too long after that, the Generation Award was given to Dwayne Johnson aka ‘The Rock’! He gave a great speech about staying true to yourself and being nice to others which were so sweet! He accomplished so much and he truly deserves the award!

Quickly after ‘The Rock’s big moment, the best performance on TV was about to be announced. I secretly hoped for Kiernan Shipka to win for ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ as she was literally made for the role in my opinion and she is absolutely fabulous in it. Although I heard so many incredible reviews about ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ and Elizabeth Moss. Moss ended up winning which I was still glad about and I truly can’t wait to start watching that show! She was wearing an absolutely stunning black and silver short Balmain dress and looked amazing! A short break then took place and I went to the bathroom to do some slight makeup re-touches and take some fresh air for a bit.

As the best performance in TV was just announced that could only mean the winner for performance in a movie would shortly come up! I again loved every nominee and would have been happy with pretty much anyone winning. From Amanda Stenberg that I adored in ‘The Hate U Give’ to Rami Malek that I hoped would win for his breathtaking performance in ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ (although he won almost every award for it this season haha), which is why I am so happy Lady Gaga won for ‘A Star is Born’. She sadly was not there as she was performing in Vegas. But, it was still so incredible that she won.

Right after that, the ’most frightened’ Performance was about to be announced and Sandra Bullock won for none-other than ‘Bird Box’! I have admired Sandra for such a long time and it was unexplainable to get to be there and see her in front of my eyes (even though she was pretty far away haha).

Soon after that, Lizzo came to perform her upbeat very catchy song ‘Juice’. I had never heard it but pretty much everyone in the room was transported by her!

A break later the award for Best Hero was about to be handed to an actor and non-other than Robert Downey Jr. won for Iron-Man which wasn’t a surprise to anybody haha. Robert wasn’t there but he pre-recorded a ‘thank you’ video that was shown! Then the best comedic performance was about to be announced and I was truly wishing Awkwafina would win for ‘Crazy Rich Asians’. It ended up going to Daniel Levy for ‘Schitt’s Creek’.

Then the trailblazer award was presented by Tiffany Haddish (co-star of Jada Pinkett Smith in ‘Girls Trip’) and it was so emotional! We saw a montage of the crazy things Jada did over the years and how influential and how much of a game-changer she is! She accepted the award with her son Jaden and I can honestly say I would listen to her speech on repeat every day. She said she didn’t think it was the time in her career to receive the award which makes her deserve it even more in my opinion!

Next up the best documentary went to ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ which is safe to say was the most moving and emotional speech of the night, by far. The best reality Tv show was also quickly announced and went to ‘Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta’.

During the many breaks, servers were walking around the seats with drinks and it’s safe to say I tried a lot of them and each one I tried was even better than the last one! As we went out to breathe for a bit a nice girl from the crew opened our sealed pockets so I could enjoy checking my phone and I posted a fun short story on my Instagram story (@tiffanyleazimmy). We still obviously couldn’t film inside but at least we had something to do during the many, many breaks hehe.

As soon as we got back to our seats the performance for the best fight was about to be announced and it ended up going to Captain Marvel vs Minn Erva (in “Captain Marvel”). I personally along with my brother voted for Captain America vs Thanos in ‘Endgame’ since it’s one of my favorite battles in movie history but I’m still glad it went to a woman! Brie accepted the award along with her two stunt doubles which I thought was so sweet of her since they truly deserve credit as well.

Onto one of my personal favorite categories: Best kiss! It went to Noah Centineo and Lara Condor for Netflix’s ‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’. I enjoyed the film so much and I couldn’t think of a more deserving on-screen couple that was nominated!

Then the second performer of the night came, Bazzi, to perform his hit song that I am literally in love with, ‘Paradise’! If you haven’t heard it yet, please go do yourself a favor! The vibe in the whole room was truly so magical, I’ll never forget it!

As soon as Bazzi finished performing ‘Paradise’, Noah Centineo won the award for best breakthrough acting! He was literally on the floor with his second golden popcorn bucket of the night haha. He mentioned how much his life has changed in the past year and it was obvious that it was surreal for him, his mom was also in the room which made things even cuter!

Shortly after he won, the best tv show and movie were about to be announced and everyone was psyched to know to who they would go to! “Games of Thrones”, obviously won and I can’t mention the number of times I’ve had to watch it haha. I’m happy it won since they have such (if not THE biggest fan base) and the last season just got released. As for the best movie I was either hoping for ‘Avengers: Endgame’ or ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ to win but mostly “Endgame” to be honest haha. So you can guess my reaction as soon as it actually won! Anthony Russo was there to accept the award and Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr. also pre-recorded a funny video that was shown right after. Quickly after that Zachary Levi came back on stage and wrapped up the show!

I also just have to say before wrapping up the post that the presenters of each award really made the show what it is and it made it so much more entertaining. Some of my fav presenters were: Tiffany Haddish (as mentioned before), Melissa McCarthy, Elisabeth Moss, Aubrey Plaza, Dave Bautista, David Spade and finally Kumail Nanjiani. They were all so good at presenting!

That’s pretty much how it all went down! As you can guess it was A LOT of fun and my brother was by far the most fun of all +1s.

Let me know if you’ve seen the show/the outfits the celebs wore on Instagram, tell me down in the comments who wore your favorite look!

Lot’s of LOVE, as always,
