BIGGER, MEANER and FUNNIER than ever – ‘VENOM’ REVIEW

Hey guys! I hope that you’re having a good weekend! I for one, am not having the best weekend as I am super sick and am on antibiotics. But, on a more positive note, I want to talk more about ‘Venom’. Hopefully, you have read my last two posts on the ‘Venom’ movie premiere I went to in LA. I first attended the movie screening (click HERE if you haven’t read that post) and then I went to the awesome after-party (click HERE for that post too). If you’re less interested in the actual event and you just want to know whether or not you should watch the movie; you’re in the right place! Here is my review for the new Sony, Columbia Pictures and Marvel’s new movie: ‘Venom’.

.

‘Venom’ is Marvel’s and Columbia Pictures’ new craze. I have heard everyone talking about this movie and I saw the trailer all over Instagram. I was so lucky that I got to go see the premiere because I was too impatient to wait for the movie to come out in cinemas.

For those of you who haven’t watched it, this is essentially the plot: a journalist named Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) is investigating and trying to take down Carlton Drake, who is the finder of the ‘Life Foundation’ (a corporation that finds mysterious things in space). Carlton Drake is illegally merging alien symbiotes with humans to find out what happens. When Eddie is investigating one of Carlton’s projects his body ends up merging with an alien symbiote called: Venom. Eddie is left with extreme amounts of strength and power. Eddie and Venom become the two parts of Eddie. He is left as kind of a Jekyll and Hyde human-alien.

.

During the movie I found myself thinking that Venom would be the villain but in the end, he kind of turned out to be the hero. Without spoiling too much of the story; Eddie and Venom end up working well for each other and help each other. We expect Venom to be this horrible and scary alien but he turns out to be somewhat nice. That turning point and the unexpected plot twist is what made me love the movie even more. I find that commonly movies are very predictable and so it was cool to have an aspect that wasn’t as predictable.

.

I think that we can expect to see Eddie/Venom in an upcoming Marvel film. Perhaps the new Avengers movie will be too soon for Venom to be in, but, maybe ones after that. I hope that Venom will appear in some. He actually was in ‘Spider-Man 3’. That was awesome. But, it was nice to see Venom have a movie completely dedicated to his great Marvel character.

The graphics of this film were truly extraordinary. I loved the way they did the graphics; it was very realistic and futuristic. I especially found the graphics mesmerizing in the scene where Eddie becomes Venom. As well as the graphics in that scene, the way they showed how he became Venom was super cool!

.

The thing that really surprised me in this movie was how funny it was! It was truly a mix of action, horror, AND comedy!!! I totally did not see that coming. I actually found that this was a super cool mix and it really gave the viewer a large range of emotions. It was also super different from other films which was nice. There were moments where I was crying from laughter and then literally two seconds later I would have a jump scare from a frightening scene! The action aspects of the movie ran through the entire film and kind of tie everything together. The darkness of the film was very well done along with the comedy of it. The comedy aspect gave the film a very ‘Deadpool’ vibe. I loved the ‘Deadpool’ movies so it was cool to have a similar thing shine through in ‘Venom’. The comedy also made the movie less serious which was cool and relaxing. Other Marvel films such as ‘Spider-Man’ were more serious so it was nice to see Venom in a different way. On the other hand, the scary and action-packed moments of the film gave off a very intense vibe! I was sitting on the edge of my seat for some scenes!

.

I would say that my only criticism of the movie would be that the beginning was quite slow. I understand that we needed some history and background on the character, as Venom is a new Marvel character that hasn’t had its own movie before. But, the beginning was a tiny bit boring. Although, it totally picked up and I ended up absolutely loving this movie!!!

I hope you enjoyed my review of the film ‘Venom’! For the reason for the somewhat boring beginning I will give this film a 7/10, but, I really did enjoy it. I laughed a lot at the funny parts and got pretty scared at the scary parts! I also thought that the movie had a very good cast!! Tom Hardy was so so good and so were his co-stars!

.

Let me know if you go watch it… and if you have already seen it, what did you think? Did you love Tom Hardy as much as I did? Are you excited to see Venom in any upcoming Marvel movies? Let me know! Also, do you agree with my 7/10 rating? If you have seen the movie let me know what you would rate it out of 10!

.

Lots of LOVE, as always,

.
