“HOLD ON, YOU GAVE HER WINGS?!”: ANT-MAN AND THE WASP MOVIE REVIEW

Even though I rated 2015’s ‘Ant-Man’ at 13th place out of 19 Marvel movies (read my ratings of the entire MCU HERE), I still absolutely loved this movie! It takes itself less seriously than other Marvel movies and makes for a great break from the classic superhero. I went to see the newest addition to this Ant-Man series two days ago with a friend and wow, I truly enjoyed it! Somehow, the film made perfect sense as it fits seamlessly within the MCU timeline: right after one of the most, if not the most, action-packed and emotional films: ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ (read my review about that HERE). Before heading onto my review of the ‘Ant-Man &The Wasp’ movie, I would just like to add that what made this film so great is what makes every Marvel film brilliant : it kept me on the edge of my seat throughout its entire screening time and pushed me to explore a new story, while enjoying myself with my friends! Honestly, MCU has it all: from great actors to original plots, these films just get better and better! These movies are always different and never quite like their predecessor! Now, enough boasting about the Marvel franchise, let’s get into my thoughts about the MCU’s 20th film.
.
To get started, if you aren’t already up to date with the plot, here’s a short synopsis : we, as the audience, are re-introduced to Scott Lang (played by Paul Rudd) a few years later and watch him deal with the consequences of his actions during “Captain America: Civil War”, in other words, we witness him on house arrest. But, just when he least expects it, Hope van Dyne (played by Evangeline Lilly) and Hank Pym (the brilliant Micheal Douglas) arrive with a new mission at hand: to save Hope’s mother. She has been stuck in the in the Quantum Realm for thirty years and they think they have finally found the means to rescue her. Lang, therefore, once again, puts back on his Ant-Man suit yet this time, he’s joined by the captivating and stunning Wasp! The two of them embark on this adventure and while on their mission, they face several obstacles. One of which involves them bumping into the intriguing and peculiar Ghost and in doing so, uncovering secrets from their past… There you go! I tried not to share TOO much about the plot (i.e. no spoilers) but still managed to give you a taste of what to expect with this new blockbuster!

Moving on to my opinions, one thing that I absolutely loved was that although Scott tried to help his friends, he always kept his daughter Cassie in priority and made sure she was safe before any quest commenced. So although Scott is a skilled and maybe frightful burglar, we still get to see him as a dedicated father with a huge heart. ‘Ant-Man & The Wasp’ is also the perfect sequel and follow-up to ‘Ant-Man’. I honestly don’t think they could’ve done better.
.
From their incredible off-the-charts visual effects that successfully played with size and growing/shrinking toys to their actors, I simply loved it! Like I said before, the producers, director, and actors achieved their goal of keeping me on the edge of my seat: making the experience rollercoaster-like! I saw it in 3D which made the experience even more unforgettable! And although this is “just” the ‘Ant-Man’ sequel, which makes up for a very small section of the MCU, I believe that the information discovered throughout this film will constitute to making the upcoming Avengers movie even more intricate! So if you loved ‘Infinity War’, and would like to learn a bit more about the MCU itself, I’d recommend watching this one! Apart from the movie’s amazing visual effects, and its brilliant new discoveries, I have to include one more thing that I loved… The chemistry between Rudd and Lilly, which is, trust me, a must-watch! If you liked 2015’s blockbusters, then you will adore this one! And yes, if you were wondering, I must admit, Michael Pena (who plays Scott’s friend Luis) definitely still the steals every scene!

The script is kind of a mess but it’ll still give you a big laugh and I love that it doesn’t take itself too seriously. This film is therefore much more like ‘Thor: Ragnarok’. Directed by Peyton Reed, this is definitely one of the movies that you have to go watch this summer! Grab some popcorn, your best friends and enjoy!
.
I almost went to the World Premiere of this movie but due to last minute complications, I couldn’t. Let me tell you honestly now, how much I wish I could’ve gone… Anyways, I’ve seen it now and I loved it! Especially like I said, seeing it in 3D at a cinema made all the difference – ahh I can’t wait for Marvel’s next epic!
